Groupe Bourbon opens a supermarket on Petite Terre and consolidates its position as leading retailer in Mayotte Vindémia, the retailing branch of Groupe Bourbon, opens a supermarket on Petite Terre, Mayotte's second island, on November 14th. With a surface area of 1 000 m2, this store provides all the services of a modern supermarket: traditional butchery, fish-market, fast-food catering, a bakery and a press shop; it includes a 70-space parking area. In all, more than 120 jobs have been created with this establishment, half of which directly. The new supermarket will serve the 40,000 inhabitants of this island. Active in Mayotte since 1998, Vindémia operates a 3200 m2 hypermarket on the archipelago, a supermarket on Grande Terre and two cash-and-carry outlets under the trade name Snie. The new supermarket on Petite Terre now adds to this retailing network. A French Territorial Collectivity of 160,000 inhabitants within the Comoro Islands, Mayotte's recent development justifies the corresponding growth in retailing facilities, which in turn have largely contributed to the lowering of retail prices. Groupe Bourbon's retailing business, in which Casino took a 33.34% shareholding through an increase of capital in December 2001, now comprises 16 hypermarkets and 25 supermarkets in the Indian Ocean and Vietnam. For the first nine months of 2003, Vindémia's turnover amounted to 614 million euros, an increase of 10.5% in comparison with the same period for 2002. . Paris, november 12th 2003 Press
