An ambitious program

BOURBON staff in the marine divisions increased by +15% since 2003

The measures and objectives defined by the Horizon 2010 plan for recruitment and training will be expanded to meet the new challenges in the offshore sector, particularly the needs resulting from the launch of the new Subsea Services Activity, which requires new experience and new expertise. As a result, nearly 5000 employees will join BOURBON by 2012, more than doubling its current work force.

To meet this challenge with the highest standards of quality and control, BOURBON, the leading recruiter of French merchant navy officers, is developing an international recruitment and training program.

Two training centers in Marseilles and Manila: the BOURBON Training Centers

After initiating in 2004 in Marseille, in partnership with local and national institutions, the first dynamic positioning training center available to all shipowners and seamen, BOURBON intensified its efforts by creating its BOURBON Training Centers. These Centers offer and guarantee the quality of each type of training. Primarily open to BOURBON seamen to support its ambitious program to recruit for offshore market services, these centers will also welcome officers from other marine companies. The Marseilles Center offers, in addition to the existing courses (DP1, HL02, safety, etc.), simulator training in anchor handling, to supplement the training already provided in Norway by the center at the University College of Aalesund. In Manila, in the Philippines, a center identical to the Marseilles facility was opened in October 2007. A third center will open its doors in Singapore in 2008. These centers allow BOURBON to guarantee a uniform training policy in its major recruitment and operational areas.

Three reference vessels

To complete the training of its officers, BOURBON is investing in an innovative concept—the reference vessels. These three BOURBON school vessels will accelerate training in the operating areas. True mobile training centers, they will meet BOURBON’s global training needs with maximum flexibility. The first three reference vessels will be positioned in Africa, Indonesia and Latin America.

A training policy to BOURBON standards

The BOURBON training policy is designed in accordance with the group’s international standards and is adapted to the local context. Thus, without certified local organizations, Angolan officers study in the best schools in South Africa, while the Nigerian officers can be trained in dynamic positioning in Singapore. The group also supports local training centers, like GEPMARE, the private marine training school in Cameroon.
