Bourbon Orca

An advanced technology vessel for the modern offshore oil and gas sector

The Bourbon Orca (Ulstein AX104) is the latest of the modern offshore oil and gas marine service vessels. Working under contract with Norsk Hydro, it is the result of the collaboration between Bourbon Offshore, the ship designer Ulstein Designer and ODIM, which specializes in marine automated systems.

The Bourbon Orca benefits of a "revolutionnary" design with a reversed stem. It improves the ship’s stability, fluidity, maneuverability and cruising speed under difficult conditions. The effects of movement and slappings being limited, the Bourbon Orca can intervene under very delicate conditions of sea, like in the North sea.

Moreover the SAHS (Safe Anchor Handling System) system limits human presence for the operations happening on the rear deck and so, improves security.

Finally, the Bourbon Orca plays the environment protection card, with a diesel-electric propulsion. This technology, together with the hull design, allows for a considerable decrease in rejections of gas and toxic products while insuring important fuel economies at the same time. Only the necessary energy is consumed.
